The Princess and Curdie

Description

One of my all time favorite couples who never get any love. This is Princess Irene and Curdie from the book The Princess and the Goblin and the sequel The Princess and Curdie by George McDonald.

There is also an animated movie based on the first book. If you have never seen the movie, you really should. The one and only song will stick in your head and drive you nuts, but other than that, it's really well done, I think.

Okay, so of course the couple is an adult version of Irene and Curdie. The portrait is the Queen Irene - Irene's magical great-grandmother who lives in the castle tower and watches over Irene. The bust on the table is over Prince Froglip, one of the main villains from the first book.

Queen Irene is supposed to be magically appearing in the mirror as a translucent being...I realized later that it could actually just be a painted portrait. Either way works.

Some textures and stock used:

Well done; the mirror definitely looks like a mirror. I absolutely love the movie but have never had access to the books. The one book of McDonald's that I have read 'At the Back of the North Wind' is one of my favorites however.
My one critique would be that Irine and Curdie look like they were drawn separately and then pasted onto the background rather than being a continuous whole. Getting rid of the lifelike stonework in favor of something more animating looking would held with that.
